Jay Johnstone, Legendarium’s Head of European Media Operations, talks with legendary actor, John Rhys-Davies at the Newcastle Film & ComicCon. Jay gets some amazing insider information in this fun interview with the Lord of the Rings star!
We learn that, only under pressure from his agent and son, that he accepted the role of Gimli in Lord of the Rings,“I didn’t want the part”, said Rhys-Davies, “…this little filmmaker [Jackson] from New Zealand doesn’t know what he’s got himself into!”, he jokes.
But was JRD a fan of Tolkien?
“No! I found the books Tedious in the extreme to read,” said JRD and going on to explain, “…but after reading them 2 or 3 more times, I realized what a master Tolkien was”.
JRD seems very excited and believes in his latest television project, Hieroglyph, which will air on Fox. Hieroglyph is, “The world of ancient Egypt – a time of magic, Pharaohs, gods and thieves – lives again in HIEROGLYPH, an exciting action adventure series from the mind of creator/executive producer Travis Beacham (“Pacific Rim,” “Clash of the Titans”).” John Rhys-Davies will play the dashing Thief mentor, Vocifer, to the lead character, Ambrose.
